Application of Rotational Tensor Interpolation to Tractography

چکیده
Introduction: Diffusion MRI was the first imaging modality to allow the visualization of white matter fibre paths in vivo, and non-invasively. The process by which the white matter tracts are reconstructed from diffusion tensor data is called tractography. Tensor interpolation methods have often been used to improve the reproducibility and reliability of tractography results (e.g [1]). In this abstract we will introduce a new method for 3D tensor interpolation based on work by Batchelor [2], and use simulated data to compare its performance to well established methodologies. Methods: Rotational Interpolation: In [2] Batchelor et al describe a novel interpolation method between two positive definite tensors called rotational anisotropy. According to this method, the interpolated tensor, D(s), between tensors D1 and D2 will be given by: T s s s R s R s D ) ( ) ( ) ( ) 1 2 1 − Λ Λ = where Λi is a diagonal matrix with the eigenvalues of tensor Di along the diagonal, and R(s) is given by:

DT-MRI Tractography and its Application in Cognitive Neuroscience
Recent advancement of MRI techniques and development of new methods of image analysis have allowed us to study large neural tracts within the human brain. This is based on the principle of diffusion tensor MRI that is similar to that of diffusion-weighted imaging but takes magnitude and direction of the diffusion of water into account. Using this technique we have been able to define large neur...

متن کاملNew Improvement in Interpretation of Gravity Gradient Tensor Data Using Eigenvalues and Invariants: An Application to Blatchford Lake, Northern Canada
Recently, interpretation of causative sources using components of the gravity gradient tensor (GGT) has had a rapid progress. Assuming N as the structural index, components of the gravity vector and gravity gradient tensor have a homogeneity degree of -N and - (N+1), respectively. In this paper, it is shown that the eigenvalues, the first and the second rotational invariants of the GGT (I1 and ...

Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...
